Bris Invitation Wording — Hebrew & English Examples, With the Vachnacht on One Card

A bris invitation usually has to go out within a day or two of the birth, so it helps to know the wording before you sit down to write it. Below is the wording our own bris designs use, in Hebrew and in English, what every bris card includes, and how to put the vachnacht and the bris on one card.

What a bris invitation includes

• ✓An opening line of thanks — for example ברוב שבח והודאה להשי״ת, or in English, "With gratitude to Hashem".
• ✓The vachnacht — the night, the home it is at, and the address. Most bris cards carry the vachnacht above the bris.
• ✓The bris milah — the day, the shul or hall, the address, and the time of Shachris.
• ✓The father's name — usually after ידידכם, with his father's name (בן הר״ר …) and his father-in-law's name (חתן הר״ר …).

Bris invitation wording (Hebrew)

This is the wording on our design VB-205, with sample names and addresses you replace with your own:

• ✓ברוב שבח והודאה להשי״ת
• ✓על כל הטוב שנגמלנו עד הנה
• ✓הננו בא להזמין לשמחתי אצל — then the vachnacht
• ✓שתתקיים אי״ה בליל ב׳ פרשת לך לך
• ✓בבית מורי חמי — then the address
• ✓ברית מילה
• ✓אי״ה למחרתו ביום שלישי — the next morning
• ✓באולם בית רחל — then the address
• ✓שחרית 8:30
• ✓ידידכם — then the father's name
• ✓בן הר״ר מנחם הי״ו — his father's name
• ✓חתן הר״ר דוב אריה גרינוואלד הי״ו — his father-in-law's name

Our design VB-204 opens the same way with בעזהשי״ת on top, and VNB-113 writes the day of the bris as יום ג׳ פרשת שלח with שחרית בשעה 8:00. Use whichever form your family writes.

Bris invitation wording (English)

For an English card, our design VBE-202 reads:

• ✓"With gratitude to Hashem, we would like to invite you to the Vach Nacht of our baby boy"
• ✓"which will take place Thursday, Parshas Behar, in our house" — then the address
• ✓"Bris Mila" — "Friday morning", the shul and its address, "Shachris 8:30 AM"
• ✓signed with the parents' first names and the family name

VBE-201 is a second English design. On any of our bris designs you can also mix the two: Hebrew wording with the hall's name and address in English.

Shalom zachor, vachnacht and bris on one card

When the bris falls right after Shabbos, some families send one card for all three. Our design SVB-202 has a section for each: the shalom zachor בליל שב״ק, the vachnacht בליל מוצש״ק at home, and the bris למחרתו in shul with the time of Shachris, closed with המצפה לקבל פניכם בשמחה and the father's name.
